Our Projects

The Bartley Foundation carries out fundraising to support significant projects that directly benefit our local community. We currently have two major projects we are supporting.

PROJECT  ONE

Cancer Support Transport Vehicle

A need identified

Discussions with the Whanganui Cancer Society identified an important need for reliable transport for patients travelling out-of-region for cancer treatment. In response to this, we have purchased a dedicated vehicle for the Cancer Society.

The purpose of the vehicle
The Cancer Society will be able to use the vehicle for:

  • Transporting patients to treatment appointments

  • Supporting patient visits and care

  • Assisting with community outreach

This vehicle will also occasionally support Foundation activities alongside the Health Bus when required.

Our ongoing commitment

The Robert Bartley Foundation will own and maintain the vehicle, ensuring it remains safe and reliable for the people who depend on it.

The wider impact

Previously, many of the Cancer Society's dedicated team of volunteer drivers used their own vehicles and often made multiple trips each week. The now-funded support vehicle lessens the strain on volunteers and enables more patients to be supported.

PROJECT  TWO

Keeping the Health Bus Running

Removing barriers to health access

Waka Hauora, the Health Bus, helps bring essential healthcare services directly into our communities. The Robert Bartley Foundation works collaboratively with health organisations and providers to maximise the positive impact of the Health Bus, making primary health care services more accessible – especially for those facing barriers such as isolation, distance, cost, or illness.

Service provision

The bus is made available free of charge to non-profit organisations and community-focused health providers who deliver services such as:

  • Health screenings

  • Cancer prevention and early detection

  • Community health education

  • Outreach services in rural and underserved areas

Making healthcare more accessible

By removing barriers to access, the Health Bus helps ensure that people who might otherwise miss out on healthcare are able to receive support.

The wider impact

Ongoing funding is required to cover operating costs so the Health Bus can continue to be available to organisations serving the greater Whanganui community.
